Edinburgh Castle named among UK's top landmarks in 2016 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards
THE historic site in Scotland's capital was the fourth best-rated landmark in the UK, while the city's Royal Yacht Britannia was ranked in eighth place.
Home to the Crown Jewels of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle is one of Scotland's most recognisable landmarks.
The castle sits 260ft above the city and can be visible for ten miles in every direction.
There was further success for Edinburgh as the Royal Yacht Britannia was named eighth best rated UK landmark in this year's Travellers’ Choice awards.
Since opening in 1999, almost five million people from around the world have visited The Queen’s former floating palace in the capital.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive at VisitScotland, said: "We're delighted that Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Yacht Britannia feature prominently in the Travellers' Choice awards, reflecting the worldwide appeal of these iconic landmarks and the quality of the visitor experience.
"Scotland's history and heritage attract millions of visitors from around the world and top attractions in Edinburgh such as these are why the Scottish capital remains a must-visit destination for travellers."

Travellers’ Choice Landmarks awards honour the world's top landmarks based on the millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers.
The winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmarks, gathered over a 12-month period.
London was home to the biggest number of winning landmarks in the UK - boasting six of the top ten on the list.
Big Ben secured top spot, with the Tower of London and Tower Bridge ranked second and third respectively.
TripAdvisor spokesperson Hayley Coleman said: “This year’s awards prove the enduring popularity of many of the UK’s most recognisable landmarks."
