For those looking for some other magnificent beach-y offerings around the world there are plenty that live up to the hype of the brochures and travel guides.

Earlier this year TripAdvisor named the most stunning stretches of sand in the world - and it was Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean and Brazil that took the top two spots in the review site's Travellers' Choice Awards 2016.

The winner was the seven-mile-long beach at Grace Bay, and with its turquoise water and powdery snow-white sand it is obvious why. 

One reviewer said: 'We would take our umbrella, chairs and a cooler and spend the day there. Life doesn't get much better.'

Second place was taken by Brazil's beautiful Baia do Sancho, on the island of Fernando de Noronha, which took first place in the awards last year.

One reviewer explained: 'As you walk through a small trail, you can't imagine what awaits you. The heavenly view seems like a mirage.' 

TRIPADVISOR NAMES THE BEST BEACHES IN THE WORLD... AND THE CARIBBEAN TAKES TOP HONOURS

Earlier this year travellers voted for the best beaches they had ever visited and Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos came out on top. 

Caribbean beaches, the Philippines, Honduras, Puerto Rica and Venezuela were also recognised for beautiful beaches. 

Paradise Beach, known locally as Playa Paraiso, on Cayo Largo del Sur, in Cuba, was also voted into the top 10, along with Cayo de Agua in Venezuela.

3. Playa Paraiso, Cayo Largo, Cuba. Paradise Beach on Cayo Largo del Sur, in Cuba, came third in the TripAdvisor polls

4. Anse Lazio, Praslin Island, Seychelles. It is easy to see why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge honeymooned in the Seychelles as many beaches are like the stunning Anse Lazio on Praslin Island, which was voted fourth best in the world

5. Cayo de Agua, Venezuela. Rising from 16th place last year, this ocean paradise in Los Roques National Park made the top five beaches in the world

6. Flamenco Beach, Culebra, Puerto Rica. Trees lines the edge of this breathtaking beach, which took sixth place in the list

7. Playa de Ses Illetes, Formentera, Spain. The tiny Balearic island of Formentera represented Spain in the awards, with this sandy wonder taking seventh place overall. It was also voted the top beach in Europe

8. Ngapali Beach, Myanmar. This Ngapali beach in Myanmar, came in at 16th place in 2015, but this year managed to make the top ten

9. West Bay Beach, Roatan, Honduras.  Also rising in the ranking was this unspoilt, long sandy stretch in Honduras

10. Nacpan Beach, El Nido, Philippines. A newcomer to the top 25 was this tropical nirvana, which is said to offer a mesmerising sunset
