Mallorca voted as best Spanish Island

Mallorca voted as best Spanish Island

The Travellers Choice award has labelled Mallorca as the second best island in Europe and the sixth-best island in the world as well.

Having lived on the beautiful island of Mallorca for eight years a good few years back, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest to hear that the island has picked up an award for ‘Best Spanish Island’.
Not only that, but Tripadvisor has given Mallorca the Travellers Choice award for the second best island in Europe and the sixth-best island in the world as well.
The travel-planning website has commented that picking out the winners of each category was made possible by using a specific computer algorithm which was able to count and determine the quality of travellers’ comments and ratings that they had given thousands of hotels, restaurants and places of interest on islands across the globe.
In this new edition of travel awards, Maui, in Hawaii, was named the best island in the world and Santorini, in Greece, the best in Europe, according to users’ comments.
Spain is represented in the ranking with 10 islands, four from the Balearics, with Mallorca being recognised both on a European and global scale.
Many TripAdvisor users recommend visiting sites such as the Caves of Drach, the various glass factories on the island, Porto Cristo, the Lluc Monastery, Sóller, La Calobra, and, of course, Palma, the capital, with its fantastic cathedral and royal Bellver Castle.
Ibiza was also picked out for an award; the sixth-best island belonging to Spain, although I’m certain that many would disagree with the sixth position and rate it much higher.
The fact that the White Island boasts more than 160 km of coastline and 50 beaches was highlighted by users, as was a visit to the historic quarter of Ibiza City.
And Menorca, where it is believed that mayonnaise was invented, was also given a mention and awarded the title of the seventh-best national island. The beaches of this island were also highlighted, especially at sunrise, as was the colour of the sea, which makes it all the more pleasurable for water sports aficionados to enjoy.
Formentera was voted the eighth best island nationally and was noted by many visitors for the tranquillity that is apparent as soon as you arrive.
